KLR wins gold: Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility
March 07, 2013Effective and flexible workplaces can yield positive business results.
When KLR received the news that we had been awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility (aka the Sloan Award) honoring our innovative and effective workplace practices, I couldn’t have been happier. This award, based on the partnership of Families and Work Institute and the Society for Human Resources Management, highlights how effective and flexible workplaces can yield positive business results and help employees succeed at work and at home.
The survey, which was broken up into a two-part process- the employer survey making up 1/3 of the results and an employee survey accounting for 2/3 of the responses, evaluated the core areas of workplace culture and flexibility including; job challenge, climate of respect, autonomy, work-life fit, economic security and supervisor support. Not only did KLR’s score surpass the best of the best companies by double digits (17+), we out ranked most other companies specifically in the areas of flex careers, reduced time and support for educational opportunities. KLR’s ability to allow employees to return to work gradually after childbirth, phase into retirement, work part-time during certain times of the year, on the job training and additional education, were all areas in which we were evaluated and ranked by our employees on.
Overall, KLR scored 80% or higher in 6 of the 10 categories on flexibility in the workplace (60% or higher in 9 of the 10 categories). Our overall ranking was 7% higher than the other winners and 10% higher than all other applicants- WOW. We are happy to help our employees make KLR a great place to work and one that is open to their changing needs and lives as their careers progress. As a recipient of the award, KLR now ranks in the top 20% of employers nationally in terms of programs, policies and culture for creating an effective and flexible workplace. This award complements our Best Accounting Place to Work For in the Country and Best Place to Work honors.
