KLR Announces Retirement of Founder and President, Lawrence I. Kahn, CPA

Lawrence I. Kahn, CPA, managing director and president, will retire effective May 31, 2014

KLR (Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co., Ltd.), one of the top 3 regional accounting firms in New England, announces that Lawrence I. Kahn, CPA, managing director and president, will retire effective May 31, 2014, after forty years of working with leadership to establish, build and lead KLR to the prestigious ranking of one of the top 100 accounting firms in the country.

Larry Kahn will remain on as Chairman Emeritus and as a consultant to the firm. Larry who turns 65 in May, will also be leaving his position as a board member of the Leading Edge Alliance (KLR is a founding member) and his board seat at the Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA).

“It is a bittersweet moment in time” said Larry Kahn, as he takes leave of the firm he helped build for the past 40 years. “We were under one million dollars in revenue when Alan Litwin and I teamed up in 1983, and here I am leaving a $35 million revenue firm, 95th largest firm in the USA and 3rd largest regional firm in New England. I have complete confidence that our team members, shareholders and emerging leaders will continue to propel the firm forward in the New England marketplace in the upcoming years” adds Larry Kahn.

Larry Kahn has been deeply involved in the business community sharing his knowledge and experience in senior leadership roles. Larry’s professional memberships include organizations at local, national and international levels; the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

In addition, Larry is a member of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Financial Services Committee, The Entrepreneurship Institute (TEI), the Boston College CEO Club, National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD-NE), Bentley University Executive Club, The CEO Roundtable, the Rhode Island Estate Planning Counsel and Department of Accountancy Advisory Board at Bentley University.

In the past, Larry has served as president of Accountants for the Public Interest of Rhode Island, Inc., vice chair of The Wheeler School, vice president of Marathon, Inc., treasurer of Challenge House, Inc., treasurer of the Foundation for Repertory Theatre of Rhode Island, president of the Ledgemont Country Club, board member of Newport International Film Festival, board member of The Carnegie Abbey Club, Chairman of the Development Committee at the Phoenix Houses of New England, Inc., Board of Directors for the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE), and as a member of the board of directors of Temple Beth El.
